I am blogging this recipe not because I love beer. Why would you want to taste beer in a slice of bread? If you really love beer, drink it!
But I am telling you that I found this recipe last evening, and I could’t wait and tried it right away. First, it took me only 5 minutes to whip up the batter. Second, the bread is insanely tasty – buttery, honey, malty…..Not any traditional white bread can compare with. TRY THIS!
Ingredients (one loaf):
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons honey
1 can beer
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a loaf pan. Line the bottom of the pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
Using a wooden spoon, stir the beer and honey into the dry ingredients until just mixed. (Microwave the honey for 5 to 10 seconds beforehand to make it easier to stir in)
Pour half the melted butter into the loaf pan. Then spoon the batter into the pan, and pour the rest of the butter on top of the batter. Use a pastry brush to spread it around.
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until top is golden brown and a toothpick/knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.

Not as good as everybody is saying. Thanks for wasting my time. Por que
Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe! I currently have it in the oven and can’t wait to enjoy!
You’re a genuis !! Love it
Do you think this would work in a bread machine?
Will this turn out ok if I use the non-alcohol beer? I have that on hand but will wait until I can get regular beer if you don’t think the non-alcohol will work. Thanks
Would love to be able to print out and add it to my collection
What kind of beer is best for this honey beer bread?
Hi Sandy, I use all kinds of beer that I’m able to find in my fridge, ale, lager… I would avoid the dark ones, like porter, it would just make a darker bread. :)
This bread took me only 10 minutes to whip up! It had great flavour but it was just a tad too dense in texture.
I veganised this recipe, and it went well.
I subbed a mix of golden syrup and agave nectar for the honey, and Flora freedom spread for the butter.
I also only had a 20cm/8″ round shallow dish. Worked fine, but less time.
can you use stale beer
Hi Maxine, I wouldn’t suggest to use flat/stale beer as it might affect the taste and how the bread rises.
can you use stale beer or flat beer
Why “unsalted” butter?
Hi Karen, you could use salted one if you want. Just omit the salt.
Can this bread be made with gluten free flour and gluten free beer?
I’ve never tried gluten free ingredients. But trust me, this recipe is quite forgiving. I would definitely go ahead!
This is fantastic!! I made it with hard cider since I’m allergic to wheat, and it still turned out great! This will be a go-to bread recipe from now on
Yeah! Good to hear that, Jazmine! Enjoy your weekend! :)
Does the beer need to be warm or room temperature? All my beer is in the fridge.
do you mean you used gluten free flour and cider in place of the beer? Sounds good. Did it rise well enough?
Amazing! We used all honey since we did not have any sugar. It was perfect!
Good to know, Linnie! Happy Easter!
This was the easiest bread I have ever made. When serving I buttered and put a swirl of honey and it was perfect.
Love the idea of adding honey with butter, Donna! :)
Hi,
What size can of beer do you use? I’m in the uk and we can get 330ml, 440ml or 567 ml (pint) cans!
Cheers
Hi Annie, I use 330ml can. Hope you enjoy the recipe. :)
Hi Fanny,
Can you translate your measurements into grams please. I m in the U.K. And would like to make this recipe

2 tablespoons (21 grams) honey
1 can (350 ml) beer

Is there a way to print this recipe for the beer bread? I tried copying and pasteing but it came out scrambled. I don’t see a ‘print’ icon anywhere.
Thanks!
Hi Alice, my website is being revamped at the moment. We are still working on the sharing functions including printing. I’ve emailed you the printable recipe. Hope it works. :)
I’ve been making beer bread for several decades, eventhough I do not like to drink beer. I’ve always used a plain, inexpensive beer. I think I’m going to try an apple ale next time and suggest it to my son who makes a lot of beer bread. During the summer, he cooks it on his grill.
Hi Bobbie, cooking it on the grill sounds really delicious! I will definitely be doing it this summer! Thanks for the inspiration! Cheers!
I just stumbled across this recipe and whipped up a batch using Sam Adams Winter Ale. It is amazing (and I was worried because I didn’t use a lighter beer). This will be my go-to beer bread recipe from now on.
So happy to hear that, Tami! Yeah, I don’t really think it matters what kind of beer you use. Well, may not be Guinness?! :P
Hey! Just thought you should know that I’ve made this recipe dozens of times for me and my husband. We love it, and I just want to say thinks for putting it out there!
Hi Lindsey, I am so happy that you and your husband enjoy the recipe. Cheers!
I’v all ways made just the regular beer bread, and got raves. now I can’t wait to bake this one and see what kind of raves I get now LOL
I use either whole wheat or white. Both delicious. I also mix it up with part whole wheat and white.

Hi. Has anyone tried this recipe with whole wheat flour or a combo of both flours? I would be interested to know your result
So excited to try this with pumpkin beer!
Hi Sara, I haven’t heard about pumpkin beer, but it sounds so perfect with this recipe. Gotta let me know how it goes, ok?! :)
I’ve been making this for years. I use self-rising flour. I also make one with chopped green chilies and shredded cheese! We also grill it on a open fire!! Or we have used a frying pan. I’m going to try the honey have not done that yet!!
Hi, Shelley, I think you’ve just given me a great idea to make a savory version of this bread. Thank you!
I just made this and the flavour is AMAZING. I only have concerns about the consistency the bread is supposed to have because I wasn’t conviced about the one my bread got.
THANK YOU!!
Great to hear that, Marimar. I always make this bread, it may not look the same every time, but the taste is always great.
And it is very good lightly toasted!
Thanks, Frank!
I’ve made this with run of the mill regular beer and it’s pretty darn good. Lately I’ve been using honey apple beer and raspberry wheat beer and it’s awesome! Get some beer with maximum flavor to make this with.
Great to hear that, Frank! And thanks for the suggestion. :)
I love homeade bread…im going to bake rhis afternoon…thanks for the pic and recipee!!!!
You are welcome, Gayle. Hope you enjoy it.
Cant wait to try
Thanks, Gayle!
Made this today. My first time making bread. Delicious! I may put shredded cheese on it next time as one commenter suggested.

The recipe looks very interesting! I’ve been tempted to bake something with beer for a while! This looks easy enough :)
I made your recipe and I really like it–I’ve already had a couple of slices and it’s supposed to go with dinner. I added some grated cheddar jack cheese and think the combination is great. Thanks so much for sharing!
beer bread is so easy and fun. Love that this recipe has honey too!
I never try to make something with beer. This breat looks wonderful, so I have to try making it for my family. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely colour of the bread. I have used soda in bread but never thought beer will do the same work.
What a color to the bread!! Golden brown!
This looks really tasty! I can’t wait to try it out this week when I make some soups and stews.
im not a big beer person either, but I do enjoy beer bread! This looks yummy!
A quick bread with beer and honey! Sign me up!
Would you recommend using a dark porter or a lighter pale ale for this one? I guess it depends on how beery you’d like your bread, eh?
This looks so delicious! What kind of beer did you use? I have some really dark beer in the fridge right now but wonder if it would be too much beer flavor. I can’t wait to try this! Thanks!
Oh I love how quick this is!! And so pretty too!!
Wow, this looks really amazing. I’ll have to try this. Great picture.
Two great things in one! A lovely loaf.
